Schwandner Group growing with Goldhofer

New heavy-duty axle lines from Swabian quality manufacturer

The company's claim clearly sets out their approach: "We are the number 1 name for special heavy-goods vehicles" is the motto under which Schwandner Group based in Pfreimd, Upper Palatinate, Germany operates. In order to be able to meet these demands not only in Germany, but also throughout Europe, group CEO Peter Schwandner has made a major investment by ordering a total of 68 new heavy-duty axle lines of type THP/SL from Allgäu-based quality manufacturer, Goldhofer AG.
"The market is developing rapidly. We want to position ourselves even better by means of new investments, and we intend to expand considerably, especially in the heavy-duty haulage business. We are achieving this by expanding our fleet to over 100 axle lines", says CEO Peter Schwandner, whose corporation is extremely active in Eastern European markets. In addition to P. Schwandner Logistik und Transport GmbH and Trans Ost Logistik GmbH (both based in Pfreimd), the Schwandner Group also operates St. Petersburger Transportservice, Hollemann in Romania and Bulgaria / Serbia, as well as Inter Trans Logistik based in Romania. Currently the group of companies employs 460 staff with a rising trend. The total fleet comprises of some 270 tractor units, also with a rising trend.
Peter Schwandner's goal, in collaboration with his international businesses, is to perfect the logistics chain from west to east. "This equally includes shipment on the Danube river as much as road transportation or airfreight, which we realise with Antonow aircraft".
Schwandner relies uncompromisingly on Goldhofer expertise in terms of road transportation. "In the drop deck area we exclusively operate quality products from Memmingen", said the company boss, who has recently received 34 axle lines of type THP/SL in Allgäu. The modular heavy-duty modules can be universally combined with each other, thereby enabling the Schwandner group to realise previously unobtainable tonnage. "In the future we will be able to transport payloads of up to 1,000 tonnes, allowing us to participate in the Champions League of the transport business", said Schwandner. The packages supplied up until now include, amongst other things, two goosenecks, an excavator and a lowbed for tanks.
The new investments mean that the Schwandner Group now has more than 62 Goldhofer fifth-wheel vehicles available. This includes six vehicles of the new XLE compact class as well as over thirty 3 and 4-axle special drop deck vehicles for transporting heavy agricultural machines e.g. combine harvesters, as well as all kinds of construction machines and industrial plants. In the heavy-duty area they have over 40 heavy-duty axle lines of type THP/UT, 68 heavy-duty lines of type THP/SL and two self-drive units with electronic multi-path steering with an overall payload of more than 2,500 tonnes. "From our point of view, this clear statement of commitment to Goldhofer's quality is a great honour. I am delighted that the Schwandner group is placing maximum trust in Goldhofer for their expansion", explained Stefan Fuchs, chief executive of Goldhofer AG at the latest handover of the new heavy-duty axle lines to Peter Schwandner.
Taking pleasure in an excellent collaboration: Christian Letzner (Regional Sales Manager Goldhofer), Peter Schwandner (CEO), Valery Ivanov (St. Petersburger Transportservice) and Stefan Fuchs (Chief Executive Goldhofer)
